UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz

McGregor vs. Diaz

UFC 196 consists of one of the most dynamic stars the UFC has ever seen, Conor McGregor and Stockton’s own Nate Diaz. McGregor, who was originally slated to face UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos, is absolutely on fire right now. Coming off of one of the most devastating first round knock outs in the history of UFC championship bouts, against former pound for pound king Jose Aldo, putting him to sleep in just 13 seconds. Rafael Dos Anjos, unfortunately, was forced to pull out of the UFC 196 bout due to a foot injury. Nate Diaz who is stepping in on just 11 days notice, could possibly cause some problems for the Irishman with a 2 inch reach advantage and also being the tallest man McGregor has ever faced. Despite the sharp boxing and Brazilian Ju Jitsu black belt of Diaz, he is taking arguably the biggest fight of his career on just 11 days notice which could possibly not end well for him. This makes for an interesting bout, look for it to be a stand up war.

My prediction: McGregor via 3rd round TKO/Referee stoppage.

C0-Main Event

Holly Holm vs Miesha Tate

In the Co-Main event we have Holly Holm, who is coming off of what could be the biggest upset in UFC history, knocking out highly respectable champion Ronda Rousey inside of two rounds, and making it look easy. Holm, will be defending her bantamweight title for the first time against hard nosed Miesha Tate. It will be very interesting to see how Holm handles the gritty style of Miesha Tate. Although Rousey defeated Tate on two separate occasions during their very heated rivalry, Tate is a much different fight for Holm than Rousey was. I wouldn’t count on Tate following Holm around the octagon and making the same mistakes Rousey made. Her grinding style and wrestling background causes a very interesting threat for Holm who will look to sprawl and brawl and use her excellent striking and footwork to keep the distance and control the pace of this Bantamweight war. I, personally, am very excited for this match and will go as far to predict this to win that sweet, sweet, Fight of the Night award.

My prediction: Holly Holm via Split Decision.
