One more name to add to the Deathnote
Per ESPN UFC Insider Brett Okamoto, Israel Adesanya will begin his Middleweight title defense vs #3 Yoel Romero.
Israel, coming off his gorgeous Performance of the Night title winning bout vs Robert Whittaker in Whittaker’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia. He put ole Bobby boy to sleep during an exchange and claimed the Middleweight championship. No one’s stock is higher than Izzy’s right now. This guy has all the potential in the world, and he’s beaten everyone he has faced. Literally. 18-0-0 in his pro career, 7-0-0 in his UFC career while he’s earned Performance of the Night or Fight of the Night bonuses in 6 of 7 UFC fights. The Last Style Bender has IT. He just has it. The swagger, the hype, the skills. He has all the tools to become one of the UFC’s best EVER.
Yoel Romero. The ageless wonder. I sure hope I look like that dude when I’m 42. He’s coming off a tough loss to Paulo Costa which marks his second straight loss. Romero is fortunate that Costa is hurt, because if he wasn’t than Costa would be fighting for the belt. Other than that, Yoel is always an exciting fighter to watch and always entertains. Romero is 13-4 as a pro and 9-4 in the UFC. I’m not sure how many fights Romero has left, but in my opinion, this is the last year we’ll see him in the UFC octagon.
This card was also supposed to feature a HUGE Middleweight contender fight between #4 Jared Cannonier and #1 Robert Whittaker. The winner of this could have very likely got the next title shot, but former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker announced Wednesday that he has withdrawn from his fight against Jared Cannonier on March 7 in Las Vegas due to undisclosed personal reasons. Now, this of course depends on the health of Paulo Costa. If Paulo is healthy, he’s without a doubt next in line for a title shot.
Man this 185 lb is the shit.
UFC 248 will take place in Las Vegas on March 7th.
