Going into tonight’s game vs LA, the Flyers had some different line combinations on offense. Raffl-Coots-Voracek, JVR-Giroux-Konecny, Laughton-Hayes-NAK, and finally Farabee-Bunnaman-Pitlick.
In the 1st period, the Flyers had a good start. They were getting some chances, but were stuck in their own zone for a few shifts. Bit then Travis Konecny had a burst of speed up the middle, and buried a one timer on a great pass from JVR, making it 1-0 Philly. The Flyers really started to put some pressure on after that goal, and had a lot of chances for the rest of the period.
In the 2nd, the Flyers would have been up 2-0 on a goal from Couturier, but it was called no goal for goaltender interference. The Flyers challenged the play, and it was confirmed “no goal” and the Flyers were assessed a 2 minute delay of game penalty, which they killed off. Minutes later, JVR made another great pass to Konecny, who roofed it on Campbell, making it 2-0 Flyers. Later in the period, Joel Farabee made it 3-0 on a tip in front on the PP, on a slap-pass from Niskanen. Farabee now has 2 goals in 2 games, playing on the 4th line, where he has been for majority of the year.
Going into the 3rd, the Kings started to get some pressure going with some good shifts early on. Dustin Brown got one back for the Kings, beating Elliot top shelf, where Momma hides the cookies. After that goal, the Flyers got one back on the PP on a tip from JVR, his 3rd point of the night, and the 2nd PP goal for the Flyers. Brian Elliot was very solid in the 3rd period, stopping a lot of Kings shots, while tracking the puck very well. The Flyers pick up a win, and a very important 2 points as well, staying neck and neck with Columbus in the playoff race.
Next up for the Flyers is Pittsburgh Tuesday night. This is an important game before the All Star break, and hopefully the Flyers can keep the momentum going against their cross state rivals.
