Korkmaz Stays Hot, Helps Embiid and Simmons Lead Team Past Bulls

After handing the Bulls a beating in the first quarter, the Sixers let Chicago climb back into the game to make it close throughout the final three quarters, but Philly finally pulled away late to win the game 118-111. The win aides the Sixers to a 24-2 home record which is the best home record in basketball.

First things first, Furkan Korkmaz is playing out of his mind right now! He’s swinging his Turkish dong all around the court every time he steps on it. Korkmaz, started the game off with a 16 point first quarter going 6 of 7 shooting the rock.

Korkmaz finished the game with 31 points and 5 boards. Kork also finished with 32 logged minutes, second most on the team tonight behind Ben. He seems to have an amazing confidence at this point in the season. He picked up exactly where he left off from Friday night’s performance. Everything Furkan does is the right decision right now. He’s driving the lane with authority and pulling up from 30 feet no problem. It’s a great thing to see for not only Korkmaz, but for the entire team who’s bench has struggled this season.

Speaking of bench pieces, the two trade pieces the Sixers brought in from Golden State both were available for the Sixers tonight. Only Glenn Robinson III got some tick tonight though, I’m guessing Burks wasn’t available, or if he was he just doesn’t know the scheme yet considering he just got here. Burks is going to get plenty of opportunity to play here in Philadelphia. He was averaging career bests before the trade and is able to help the pick and pop offense.

As for Robinson III, he’s back in a Sixers uniform for the first time since 2015. He finished with 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting in 12 minutes. Robinson is the type of player who is able to plug into a lineup without having to learn much of the terminology, although that’ll come eventually. As Brandon posted earlier, GR3 is averaging a career best 40% from the 3pt line this season! Robinson III, Burks, and “JJ Korkmaz” as Brett Brown likes to call him should get plenty of tick coming off the bench for the Sixers in the near future. That is an area the team really needs a spark from.

Sixers PG Ben Simmons played 37 minutes and finished the game with a triple-double: 19pts, 10reb, and 10ast. Ben was super aggressive tonight in all aspects of the game. Defensively, he’s one of the better guards in the league and in serious contention for DPOY. I know new Sixer Glenn Robinson III is a former Slam Dunk Contest Champion, yet Ben could take that home easily if he ever decided to compete in the contest. Watching Simmons fly through the air is always a beautiful sight.

Sixers center Joel Embiid was dominant in the tonight’s game as well. He finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assist in 31 minutes. Joel hit a huge 3 pointer in crunch time and then put his finger over his mouth and said what looked like, “shut the fuck up!” to me, or maybe that’s just what I really wanted to see. Embiid stole the ball off the Bulls the very next possession and was fouled. He went to the line and missed both free throws which was frustrating but understandable because of his hand. Joel seems like he’s getting more comfortable with each passing day, so maybe this team can hit a sweet stretch where they put a little win streak together. The schedule has some easy stretches that could help them with that.

The 76ers next match up comes this Tuesday vs a Clippers team who got blown out by the T-Wolves last night. A nice test for this team. Lets see what they can do.
