2nd Line Domination – Flyers 4, Sharks 2 | With Special Guest, Jamey Baskow

Tuesday night the Flyers took on the San Jose Sharks in South Philly. The new guys were in the lineup tonight, Nate Thompson on the 4C, and Derek Grant on the 3C. Grant and Thompson also has penalty kill time, which has been very good as of late. Early, Sean Couturier drew a penalty 22 seconds in, and Nic Aube-Kubel made it 1-0 on a pass from James van Reimsdyk right in the slot. After the goal, the Flyers got killed in their own zone, and had a defensive breakdown. Carter Hart coughed up a fat rebound and Joel Kellman potted the 2nd goal of his NHL career, his 1st goal was against these same Flyers back in December, where the Flyers lost 6-1 in San Jose.

Scott Laughton almost made it 2-1 after a wide open shot rang of the crossbar then post, staying out of the net, keep it tied up 1-1. The Flyers had a better 2nd period defensively, and got 2 goals from Kevin Hayes & Travis Konecny. Hayes’ goal got challenged by San Jose, as it was VERY close to the line as Laughton skate dragged, but the call stood and the Flyers were up 2-1 a few minutes into the 2nd. Konecny’s goal was a thing of beauty, a great pass from Hayes at the blue line on the 2 on 1, feeding a speeding Konecny through the slot, beating Aaron Dell five hole giving the Flyers a 3-1 lead.

The Flyers had their chances, and the 1st line of Giroux-Couturier-Voracek, was the best line in the 1st, the other 3 had some tough time coming together, chemistry with the new guys was a little off, and was expected. The 2nd period was a different story as all 3 lines got in going in different areas and made some nice plays as well, and the 2nd line had 2 goals as well.

Early In the 3rd, that 2nd line had some great pressure in the Sharks zone, Scott Laughton had some great hustle on the play to get the puck to Konecny, who found Hayes as he just beat Dell on the glove side off the one timer, making it 4-1, Hayes’ second of the game, and his 21st of the season. Claude Giroux had a turnover at the Flyers line, and San Jose capitalized on it, as Noah Gregor made it 4-2 on a rip from the top of the circle over the glove of Hart, a really nice shot. The Flyers finished it off getting the 4-2 win, their 4th straight, and are now 3 points behind 1st place in the Metro.
